Huw Parkman - Musical Director:
Huw was born in Aberdare and is proudly self taught. He has been Musical Director for Llantrisant Male Choir since April 2009. Prior to this Huw was accompanist for the Choir for two years, and is pleased to return to take on the role as Musical Director.
He is also in constant demand and has played for and conducted Dunvant, Onllwyn, Gyrlais, Glynneath Male Voice Choirs to name but a few. Huw has also made several appearances on Television and Radio, playing for the S4C programs Dechrau Canu, Dechrau Canmol and Noson Lawen. Huw now lives in Cardiff and works as a freelance musician, demonstrator and teacher. He also is in partnership running the Song Street Wales company, which manages projects all over South Wales encouraging community music and has recently taken the 3G Community Choir to Euro Disney to celebrate 'Welsh Week'
Jane Coles GDNSM - Accompanist:
Jane’s music studies included a piano scholarship at the Welsh College of Music and Drama, followed by a Graduate Diploma in Jazz, Popular & Commercial Music from Newcastle College. Jane gained extensive experience demonstrating acoustic and digital pianos, keyboards and music technology in music shops, department stores & exhibitions. Her public performances in the UK and overseas have included audiences with the Princess of Wales, Prince William and the Welsh Rugby Union.
Jane can currently be heard playing the piano at the Celtic Manor Resort Hotel, Newport and on keyboards and vocals with the Coast to Coast band. As a solo performer, Jane is in demand as a wedding and function pianist.
As well as being an accomplished performer, Jane is a successful and popular piano teacher. Having taught privately from the age of 16, in 2003 Jane joined the Forte Schools of Music in Cardiff and Caerphilly. There she progressed to the role of Teacher Mentor, and in October 2009 Jane became the owner of Forte School of Music (Cardiff) Ltd, with a team of 14 staff and over 300 pupils.
In addition to her musical skills, Jane is a dedicated fundraiser for various charities. In 2005 Jane completed a sponsored five day trek to Machu Picchu for Scope & in 2009 crossed the Arctic Circle on a six day 250km dog sledding expedition across snow & ice in sub-zero temperatures for Cardiff & Vale Crossroads & Barnardo’s Caerphilly Young Carers Services.
Jane was delighted to join Llantrisant Male Choir in May 2009 and accompanied the choir on an emotionally charged tour of Holland and Belgium in October 2009 to commemorate the part played by the Welsh Regiments during World War II.
Stephanie Bailey - Accompanist:
Stephanie was born in the village of Skewen, near Neath. She began piano lessons at the age of 9 and became the accompanist of various local children’s choirs by the age of 13, progressing to participate in music competitions and performances. She has made television appearances on Songs of Praise whilst studying at University gaining BA(Hons) Music followed by a PGCE.
Stephanie has enjoyed teaching piano and singing, conducting children’s choirs and accompanying soloists. More recently she joined with the World Champion Black Dyke Brass Band in concert at St David’s Hall, Cardiff. She has also recently seen her first publication of a musical composition for Children’s Choir.
Stephanie joined the Llantrisant Male Choir in February 2008.
Deb Lloyd Jones - Accompanist:
Deb hails from Pentre in the South Wales valleys. She began learning piano at an early age, and gained experience in accompanying a wide variety of vocalists, groups and instrumentalists. She studied Music at the University of Wales, Cardiff obtaining a BMus (Hons). In her second year at Cardiff, she was admitted a Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music. Deb then won a scholarship to study for a Master of Music in Performance at LCM, which she obtained with Distinction, and in 2000 graduated with a PGCE. She taught in various secondary schools as music teacher and Head of Music and in September 2009 began a career in Higher Education as a Lecturer.
Deb is also a freelance trumpeter and she has recorded numerous pieces for television, radio and studio work and has performed with various wind bands, brass bands, and orchestras in many of the major concert halls in Wales, the UK and abroad. Television recordings include a series of television documentaries for Channel 4 with musicologist Howard Goodall, entitled Big Bangs, and memorably at Abbey Road with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Deb has performed and led masterclasses and worked with the Central Band of the Royal Air Force and Grenadier Guards at Buckingham Palace. She was the first ever female to gain the coveted position of Principal Trumpet with the NYOW and following this she lead the trumpet section of the International Youth Orchestra at the Edinburgh Festival, and the British entry at the World Wind Band Conference in Austria. Initially she was introduced to the cornet at an early age, receiving tuition from her father and Major Arthur Kenny, with trumpet tuition from trumpeters Tony Cross (Bergen Symphony Orchestra) Joe Atkins (Royal Philharmonic Orchestra), Andy Cuff (BBC NOW) and James Watson (Black Dyke /RAM).
Deb joined Llantrisant Male Choir in May 2009.
